This newly devised play explores the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. Using media, text, music and physical performance the piece will ask what we, as individuals, can do when the world is at stake?

What is Devised Theatre?

This form of theatre is as old as theatre itself, however the term “devised” widely rose out of postwar European theatre and loosely defines a collaborative process of theatre-making where each member of the creative team contributes to the entirety of the process. Discoveries surrounding text, visuals, story and message are arrived at organically through a series of activities, tasks and processes which occur concurrently in a rehearsal room.

Devised work, based on the tradition of docudrama has been at the heart of NHTP's work since its creation with pieces including Neighborhoods and Dreaming Again. The company of resident artists led by Associate Artistic Director Catherine Stewart, with an ensemble of guest artists will be working over a series of months to explore the human love affair with our habitat. Through a program of community workshops, interviews, rehearsals and public art projects the creative team will find the stories of hope and fear, joy and despair that connect individuals with their environment.

Further details on this project, and how to get involved, will be announced in early 2020.
