NHTP is delighted to announce our 2021-22 MainStage Season theme and production schedule. The programming committee chose our theme of "Are we there yet?" for two reasons. First, the obvious post-pandemic issue for any theatre company continues to be "When will we get back to normal? And what is normal, really?"

But the theme carries an important message connected to each MainStage production as well. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane asks: How does suffering make us more human and capable of love? Women Playing Hamlet explores the notion of equity in the world of professional theatre. Small Mouth Sounds delves into the search for spiritual transformation in a secular world.. An Inspector Calls, written at the end of WWII, asks a question that seems more pertinent than ever: What is our responsibility to the other humans with whom we share this planet? Along with the theme of "Are we there yet?" each production also explores the notion of "What exactly is there?" and "How will we know when we're there?"?

In addition to the four major productions this season, additional outreach activities, guest appearances, and Elephant-in-the-Room Series® programs will be announced at a later date. The season will unofficially open in October, with a live presentation of The Uncertainty Principle, an applied theatre work based on stories collected from the community about their pandemic experience, created as part of NHTP’s ongoing community collaboration We Don’t Know What This Is Yet.

Tickets will go on sale for NHTP Members September 15 and for the public on October 1, 2021.
