Dear NHTP Friends,
New Hampshire Charitable Foundation - Community Operating Grant of $10,000 for 3 years totaling $30,000. Technically, this is an unrestricted operating grant and we are choosing to use it to partially fund Catherine Stewart as Associate Artistic Director for NHTP. This will allow Genevieve Aichele and Catherine to work together to strategically position NHTP for the next 30 years.
We are tremendously fortunate to have Catherine move into this role. "As I step into this role of Associate Artistic Director the organization is facing a challenging time of growth, and ensuring sustainability. The company is expanding, we are hoping to reach more communities, and work with more partners both within the arts and other fields. It’s a very exciting time, but with that energy comes a great deal of self-reflection and evaluation. I am asking “how can we best serve our community,” and I am particularly engaged in examining “who gets to make and see theatre?” We have a responsibility to address diversity, and inclusion, and create lasting solutions with our collaborators to ensure that there is a space on the stage and in the audience for all." Catherine Stewart, December 2018
Elephant in the Room Series is an opportunity for a diverse group of people to sit in a room together, watch a stage performance or reading about an emotionally charged topic that we often avoid in public conversation, and have a community discussion in a safe environment. There will be four presentations in Portsmouth in 2019, focused on Eating Disorders & Body Image, the Opioid Crisis & Families, School Safety in the 21st Century, and Suicide.
New Hampshire Humanities - $9,825 for four NHTP Elephant in the Room presentations in Portsmouth at West End Studio Theatre.
NH State Council on the Arts - $4,500 to support touring of Elephant-in-the-Room presentation of A Wider Circle to Gorham, Concord, and Rochester, NH. We also received an additional $1,150 for the NH Charitable Foundation's Substance Abuse Fund for this tour.
Portsmouth Elks Lodge #97- $1,250 general support for Elephant in the Room 2019 presentation.
Portsmouth Chamber Collaborative - $500 gift from The Holiday Tasting fundraiser which we will use to work with marketing students from the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics to develop a marketing plan for the Theatre for Life program. Read an article.
