Comedy is a fundamental tool for processing experience. When we share our pain through comedy, the writer creates portals for connection with an audience. In this writing and performance workshop, come prepared to share your ideas - it can be a rough draft or ideas scratched onto cocktail napkins, but come with something!

Participants will explore their true stories through writing exercises and the opportunity to have their work read aloud. Participants will leave the workshop with pieces that bring the audience closer to the performer and to the collective human experience.

This workshop is writers looking to expand their skills, and find new avenues for publishing and presenting their writing.  No prior experience of writing for the stage is necessary. Students will participate via Zoom. The best way to access this class is through a computer with appropriate video and audio connections.

Company Artist Stephanie Lazenby is a writer, performer and teaching artist. Collaborating is her creative power and she uses the medium of comedy in all of her creative endeavors. As a teaching artist she leads students through the writing process to create and perform an original play or skit based on the subject they are studying. She uses songwriting, choreography and humor in her workshops.

This workshop is part of the 2020 - 2021 MainStage Season program SoloStage. Over the course of six months NHTP is supporting three artists to make new plays. The plays include a family show, a poignant comedy and a reimaging of a Shakespearean classic.
