New Hampshire Theatre Project’s mainstage productions are a vital piece of our mission to create innovative, excellent and educational theatre that serves as a catalyst for personal transformation and community dialogue.

Politics, Freedom & Personal Responsibility
Click here to watch a short multimedia introduction to the season from artistic director Genevieve Aichele and producing director Blair Hundertmark.

The NHTP 2007/08 season centers on a theme of politics, freedom and personal responsibility. We begin in the contemporary Middle East of Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me and end up in war-torn Europe circa 1624 with Mother Courage and Her Children. Along the way, we celebrate New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary status with the hilariously satirical The Primary Primary! and the Junior Repertory Company explores the price of visionary politics in King Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table.

Come see a performance in our intimate, 50-seat black box theatre on 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth. Join us for lively audience discussions and meet-the-artist receptions. Celebrate with us at the December Red Stocking Jubilee and the Spring Fling Cabaret in March. Take a class or a workshop and explore the gifts of theatre: Affirmation, Healing, Responsibility, Teamwork, Creativity, Communication, Cooperation, Confidence, Tolerance and Passion.

As you know, ticket fees and tuition only cover about half of NHTP’s expenses. A recent survey by Urban Institute found that 96% of Americans value the arts in their daily life, but only one in four think the arts are worthy of their personal support. Help us change the statistics. Make NHTP an important part of your life!

CLASSIC DRAMA
Someone Who'll Watch Over Me

By Frank McGuinness
Directed by Genevieve Aichele
November 9-25, 2007

Inspired by conversations with hostage Brian Keenan who spent 4 ½ years imprisoned in Beirut, the playwright has fashioned a moving drama about an Irishman, an Englishman and an American who form a close friendship under the appalling strain and monotony of captivity. Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me combines heartrending tragedy and poignant comedy in a theme that is both relevant to current world politics and universally redemptive.

NEW WORKS SHOWCASE
The Primary Primary!

By Robert John Ford
Directed by Blair Hundertmark
January 4-6, 11-13, 18-20

This is a hilarious, irreverent and oftentimes politically-incorrect look at the New Hampshire primaries and how an undersized state plays an oversized role in the presidential nomination process. From the jaded local coffee-shop regulars to the widely-varying candidates who will do anything to win their votes, these recognizable characters will make you laugh all the way to the polls.

The Primary Primary! has been tailored for New Hampshire from the original play, CAUCUS! The Musical, which will be running concurrently in Iowa in January 2008. Here at New Hampshire Theatre Project, we never want you to forget that the nation’s fate is in the Granite State!

SENIOR YOUTH REPERTORY COMPANY
Mother Courage and Her Children

By Bertolt Brecht
Directed by Genevieve Aichele
May 16-18 & 23-25, 2008

Our mainstage season wraps up in May with the Senior Youth Repertory Company production of Bertolt Brecht’s epic masterpiece Mother Courage and Her Children. Through Brecht’s stark vision, the play relentlessly questions the distinctions between war, business, and morality, creating a world in which everything is for sale and no price is too high.
