PRAISE FOR LAST SEASON
"Simply a wonder"
– the Portsmouth Herald
"If there's one play you
see this year, see this one"
– the Wire
"Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!"
– audience member
This year, New Hampshire Theatre Project celebrates 20 years of transformative theatre, productions that encourage meaningful reflection and community dialogue for both audience and participants.
The 2008/09 anniversary season explores the befitting theme of time and destiny – how actions in the past influence future possibilities. We begin in November with Doubt, John Patrick Shanley’s provocative investigation of truth and consequences in the Catholic Church, and end in May with Hamlet, Shakespeare’s dark prince of doubt who brings about his own tragic destiny. Celebration! proclaims the triumph of choosing light and love over greed and corruption, and time is definitely “out of joint” in the hilarious Revenge of the Space Pandas. Our special anniversary production of Entr’Acte is a retrospective that honors NHTP’s past 20 years and propels us toward the future.
Come join us for provocative drama, hilarious comedy, delectable music, and lively audience discussions. Explore the gifts of theatre: affirmation, healing, responsibility, teamwork, creativity, communication, cooperation, confidence, tolerance and passion. Come celebrate and make NHTP an important part of your life!

By John Patrick Shanley
Directed by Dev Luthra
November 14–30, 2008
Set in 1964 at a Catholic School, Shanley’s parable portrays the struggle between an older nun and a new priest she suspects of abuse. This mysteriously tense drama investigates deeply disturbing subject matter with artistry and taste, offering insights that are both emotional and thoughtful. Doubt is directed by Dev Luthra from Boston’s And Still We Rise Productions. Award winning NHTP artistic team of Genevieve Aichele & Blair Hundertmark star in this Pulitzer Prize, Obie, and Tony Award winning play. |

MIDWINTER MUSICAL
Celebration!
By Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt
Directed by Genevieve Aichele
January 9–25, 2009
This joyous musical, which was written by the same team that created The Fantasticks, presents an allegorical fable resplendent with masked revelers celebrating the triumph of innocence over evil. With tuneful music and powerful movement, Celebration! combines wry comedy with pure passion, exploring the personal costs of environmental destruction when motivated by greed. This musical, which premiered 40 years ago, wraps its strongly contemporary themes in the wildness of a crazy midwinter carnival. With music direction by the indomitable Gail Adams, Celebration! is one musical you won’t want to miss. |
