2008 Summer Camps for Ages 6-17

 

NHTP summer camps provide students with the opportunity to create and present their work in a professional theatre venue. All instructors have extensive experience working with young people in both educational and theatrical settings, and include Genevieve Aichele, Meghann Beauchamp, Christy Cloutier Holmes, Blair Hundertmark, Sofia Piel and guest artists. NHTP camps emphasize artistic excellence, developmentally appropriate activities, critical thinking, ensemble and teamwork, and lots of summer fun!

All New Hampshire Theatre Project summer camps are held at NHTP's air-conditioned theatre, 959 Islington Street, Portsmouth NH [directions].

Kids Theatre Camp

July 7-11 2008, 9 am to 12 noon, Ages 6-9


Creative Drama PhotoNow in its eighth year, this popular week-long camp features creative drama, movement, and visual arts activities, with a final performance at 6:30 PM on Friday, July 11. Limited to 14 campers. FEE: $250

 

 

 

Story Theatre Camp

July 21-August 2 2008, 9 am to 3 pm, Ages 8-12

Photo of 2006 Teen CampNHTP’s most popular camp has been a favorite of seacoast children for 13 years. Story Theatre Camp activities include acting, movement, writing, visual arts and music with an emphasis on ensemble performances based on children’s literature and original writing by participants. Classes meet Monday-Friday, with final performances on Friday, August 1 at 7 PM and Saturday, August 2 at 11 AM. Limited to 20 campers. FEE: $425

 


Teen Theatre Camp

July 7-19 2008, Ages 13-17

Photo from Henry IV 2006This intensive camp will focus on a theme from classic dramatic literature.  (Teen Camp 2007 featured William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night). Participants will learn acting, directing and design skills along with intensive vocal and physical techniques. Final productions will be

presented July 18-19 - times TBA .

Limited to 20 campers. FEE: $450
Hours: July 7-10, 1 to 5 PM; July 12, 10AM to 4 PM, July 14-18, 10AM to 4 PM
Evening and matinee performances times TBA.

 

 

Financial aid is available on a limited basis for those campers with demonstrated need.

2008 Summer Camps for Grown Ups

By popular demand, New Hampshire Theatre Project is offering three special summer programs for adult students, ages 18 and up. Most participants will have at least some performing experience but beginners are always welcome. Come play with us!

 

Adult Performance Workshop
The Plays of William Inge

Participants will explore scenes from Inge’s most popular plays (Picnic, Bus Stop, and Come Back, Little Sheba) through script analysis, acting techniques and simple staging. All participants will be cast and final performances will be open to the public.

Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, June 16 to July 9, 7–9 pm. Additional rehearsals July 10–11; performances July 12–13.

Instructor: Genevieve Aichele is NHTP’s Artistic Director and has directed and taught theatre nationally and internationally since 1975.

Fee: $200

 

Introduction to Playwriting

PhotoLearn the basics of creating dialog, script formatting, and writing for the stage from an award-winning playwright and screenwriter.

Schedule: Wednesday, July 23, 6:30–9:30 pm

Instructor: Dr. Paul Mroczka teaches Theatre History, Script Analysis and Directing at Plymouth State University, and his plays have been staged in theatres throughout the United States.

Fee: $30

 

Shakespeare Acting & Mind Gym

PhotoDiscover and clarify your own life experiences using Shakespeare’s plays as a lens. Developing acting technique through Shakespeare is a fantastic tool for empowering personal growth, building public speaking skills, and exercising the mind. (In a recent study, the MRI analysis center at the University of Liverpool found that participants’ brain activity peaked when they were reading Shakespeare.)

Schedule: Saturday, July 26, 10:00 am–1:00 pm

Instructor: Libby Page has a Masters in Shakespeare & Renaissance Literature from the American Shakespeare Center at Mary Baldwin College, has performed professionally in over 30 productions, and studied acting in New York at Herbert Berghoff studios, Lee Strasberg, and Ensemble Studio Theatre.
