2009 Summer Camps for Ages 6-17

NHTP summer camps provide students with the opportunity to create and present their work in a professional theatre venue. All instructors have extensive experience working with young people in both educational and theatrical settings, and include Genevieve Aichele, Blair Hundertmark, and guest artists. NHTP camps emphasize artistic excellence, developmentally appropriate activities, critical thinking, ensemble and teamwork, and lots of summer fun!

All New Hampshire Theatre Project summer camps are held at NHTP's air-conditioned theatre, 959 Islington Street, Portsmouth NH [directions].

Kids Theatre Camp

July 6-10 2009, 9 am to 12 noon, Ages 6-9


Creative Drama PhotoNow in its ninth year, this popular week-long camp features creative drama, movement, and visual arts activities, with a final performance at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 10. Limited to 14 campers. FEE: $250

 

 

 

Story Theatre Camp

July 20-August 1, 2009, 9 am to 3 pm, Ages 8-12

Photo of 2006 Teen CampNHTP’s most popular camp has been a favorite of seacoast children for 14 years. Story Theatre Camp activities include acting, movement, writing, visual arts and music with an emphasis on ensemble performances based on children’s literature and original writing by participants. Classes meet Monday-Friday, with final performances on Friday, July 31 at 7 PM and Saturday, August 1 at 11 AM. Limited to 20 campers. FEE: $435

 


Teen Theatre Camp

July 6-18 2009, Ages 13-17

Photo from Henry IV 2006This intensive camp will focus on Comedy Through the Ages.  (Past Teen Camps have featured Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and The Three Musketeers). Participants will learn acting skills along with intensive vocal and physical techniques. Final productions will be presented July 17 & 18.

Limited to 20 campers. FEE: $460
Hours: July 6-9, 1 to 4 PM; July 11, 10AM to 4 PM, July 13-17, 10AM to 4 PM
Evening performances Fri, July 17 at 7pm, Sat, July 18 at 2pm.

 

 

Financial aid is available on a limited basis for those campers with demonstrated need.

2009 Summer Theatre Camps for Grown-Ups

2009 Summer Theatre Camp for Grown-ups will focus on a Festival of New Works by local and contemporary playwrights.

Camp is open for adult students, ages 18 and up. Most participants will have at least some performing experience but beginners are always welcome. Come play with us!

 

Adult Performance Intensive
New Works Festival

Participants will present new plays by local and contemporary playwrights, exploring the work through script analysis, acting techniques and simple staging. All participants will be cast and final performances will be open to the public.

Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, June 15 to July 8, 7–9 pm. Additional rehearsals July 9-10; performances July 11–12.

Instructor: Genevieve Aichele is NHTP’s Artistic Director and has directed and taught theatre nationally and internationally since 1975.

Fee: $225

 

How to Audition: Tips & Techniques

PhotoTips for successful auditions - choosing and staging material, appropriate theatre protocol, and understanding what directors need.  For those who want specific coaching, please come prepared with a memorized audition monologue.  Award-winning actor and director Blair Hundertmark has worked at professional theatres throughout New England and the United States.

Acting Shakespeare's Verse: From Page to Stage

PhotoDesigned for adult actors at all levels, participants will bring Shakespeare's text from the flat page to the three dimensional reality of the stage using language analysis, voice, movement, and historical context.  Whether you are new to Shakespeare or an avid fan, you'll gain a deeper understanding of Shakespeare's craft and the power of performance.  Libby Page is a professional actor and teacher with a Masters in Shakespeare and Renaissance literature.
