Mitty! A whimsical new musical.

New Hampshire Theatre Project presents

Mitty!

Program Sponsor: Mulhern & Scott, PPLC

NHTP presents the premiere of Mitty!, a brand new musical by Exeter playwright Becky Shepard.  Inspired by James Thurber’s famous short story, Walter Mitty is portrayed as a simple family man and piano teacher, torn between his vivid imaginary adventures and the needs of his real-life family.  With an intergenerational cast and songs you will walk away humming, Mitty! promises to be a delightful antidote to winter doldrums for the whole family.

Directed by Genevieve Aichele, the cast will feature seacoast favorites Peter Motson, Tim Robinson, Kathy Somssich, and Meghann Beauchamp along with a troupe of multi-talented adult and youth actors.  Music director Gail Adams on piano will be joined by John Stewart on bass and John Marshall on drums.  The production team includes lighting designer Quentin Stockwell, costume designers Denise McDonough and Kathy Mason, and set designer Meghann Beauchamp, along with stage manager Taylor Rodgers, assistant stage manager Gretchen Engle, and fight choreographer Blair Hundertmark.

Becky Shepard’s first full-length musical has the endearing wonder of old-fashioned musical theatre from the 40’s and 50’s.  The story is simple, an ordinary man discovers what is most important in his life.  But Walter Mitty’s tale resonates will all of us who sometimes wish we were something different or better or more exciting than we are, and who need occasional reminders of the extraordinary joy to be found in everyday life.

Mitty! is recommended for ages 6 and up.

"Like Mitty himself, dump the heavy world and, at least for a few hours, set yourself free."

"The songs are upbeat, catchy and fun...completely refreshing... Mitty is a great way to spend a winter evening. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing “It’s a Fact, Walter Mitty” on the drive home.
