JUNIOR YOUTH REPERTORY COMPANY
King Arthur's Court By Genevieve Aichele
Directed by
Meghann Beauchamp
New Hampshire Theatre Project’s Junior Youth Repertory Company presents King Arthur’s Court on April 11-13 at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth. Written by NHTP’s artistic director Genevieve Aichele, this tale follows three American children on vacation in England who accidentally spend the night in an old castle. Here they encounter King Arthur and his court of legendary characters that meet once a year to discuss important matters of state.
Meghann Beauchamp has led the NHTP Junior Repertory Company through an in depth study of the historical characters in the play. These characters engage in lively discussions about the political topics of their times – Might versus Right, when to surrender and when to fight, and finding the truth in history once it becomes myth. The modern children come to a new understanding and compassion for the humanity of legendary characters like King Arthur, Robin Hood and Queen Bodicca.
Director Meghann Beauchamp heads up the scenic and lighting design with a team of Senior Repertory interns Colby Senior of Portsmouth High School and Jes Marbacher of Exeter High School. The production features original music written by Senior Repertory Company member, Skyler Clark-Hamel of York High School. In an exciting collaboration between NHTP and the Cocheco Arts and Technology Academy, CATA students have designed and constructed the costumes for Kings Arthur’s Court, under the guidance of CATA assistant director, Christy Cloutier Holmes.
